Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from spring of that year.

The win also signifies he has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to force a decider.

Moutet saved four early break points in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
